The External Programme consists of three language levels:
· Beginners' (D1)
· Low-Intermediate (D2)
· Intermediate (D3)

There are two types of programmes:
a) the internet course (D1)
b) regular external course combined with the internet facilities (email) (D2 and D3)

The Absolute beginners can start their course immediately without taking the Placement Test. External students who do have some previous knowledge of Serbian and have not attended any of the Azbukum internal language courses, will need to take the Placement Test.

The language of teaching at D1 course is English. D2 and D3 course is based on explanations in Serbian language. Sometimes English can also be used in order to get certain expressions or constructions explained more clearly.

Both D1 and D2 courses consist of 10 lessons and 4 revision tests while D3 course consists of 3 packages of 5 lessons and a student himself decides how many packages would like to take. As D3 course is not done completely through the Internet the listening passages are recorded on an audio tape and sent to the student.
It is estimated that at least 2 hours are needed to complete one lesson and 1 hour for each test. Bassically there are approximately 30 hours of student's work for first two levels and 10 per each package of the D3 course. All courses finish with the Final Test.
Student needs to make an initial calculation of the overall number of hours per week and number of weeks/months he can expect his studies to take, and be aware of the difficulties and pressures involved in studying independently.

All external students get the Certificate upon finishing thier course and taking the Final Test. The Certificate will be sent to the address student gives to the Centre prior to the course start. On a student's special request Azbukum can issue a Letter of Recoomandation.
